WORKSHOP: FOR A MORE TRANSPARENT NGO SECTOR
Szeminárium a civil szektor átláthatóságáról angol nyelven Budapesten, 2014. március 14-én.
The Tom Lantos Institute in partnership with the American
Chamber of Commerce in Hungary (AmCham) and the Embassy of the United States in
Hungary is organizing a workshop on governance in the NGO sector at the Bank
Center (Budapest, 1054 Szabadság tér 7.) on Friday, 14 March,
2014, from 8am until 2.20pm.
Dr. Tomicah Tillemann, Senior Advisor for Civil Society and
Emerging Democracies to Secretary of State John Kerry, will deliver the keynote
speech on best practices in the U.S. non-profit sector.
As a member of the NGO Working Group of the AmCham
Governance & Transparency Committee, TLI contributed to the preparation of
an NGO Position Brief that formulates a series of recommendations on how to
improve the efficiency and transparency of the NGO sector. The Working Group
looked into the practices of NGOs, analyzed the problems which may hinder their
effective operation and addressed recommendations aimed at both decision-makers
and NGO actors. With the Position Brief we also seek to engage in dialogue with
the academia in order to support educators in teaching their students more
effectively about how to establish and operate efficiently and transparently
non-profit organizations and about good governance practices in the NGO sector
The recommendations formulated in the NGO Position Brief
will be presented during the workshop, while three panels will be dedicated
respectively to (1) NGO governance issues, (2) donors’ expectations
from non-profit organizations and (3) social entrepreneurship.
The working language of the event is English.
